Providing More Than a Meal: UCKG HelpCentre Soup Kitchens
At the UCKG HelpCentre, our soup kitchens aim to offer far more than just a hot meal. With volunteers always on hand to share a kind word or a warm smile, we strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and compassionate environment for all who attend.
Operating every Saturday from 11am to 1pm, our soup kitchens are a vital part of the outreach services we provide. We understand the profound impact a warm, nourishing meal can have—especially for those facing hardship. Alongside our dedicated volunteers, we work tirelessly to ensure that this essential service remains available to anyone in need.
In the UK, an estimated 1 in 7 people—including children—are currently experiencing food insecurity and often depend on charitable provisions such as soup kitchens and meal centres. With 9 soup kitchen locations across the UK, we proudly open our doors to all. In 2024 alone, 31,972 individuals have regularly attended our centres, with 43,516 people receiving direct support. These numbers reflect not only the growing need but also our commitment to expanding our reach and impact.
Our efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic further underscored this commitment. Amid unprecedented challenges, we continued to serve the vulnerable in our communities, adapting operations to maintain safety while ensuring no one went hungry or felt forgotten.
Looking ahead, we are determined to do even more. Through the introduction of Soup Kitchen Connect, we are broadening the support we offer—providing not only hot meals but also access to advice and assistance in areas such as housing, debt, and financial support. This initiative aims to transform our soup kitchens into holistic community support hubs, addressing both immediate needs and longer-term challenges.
