Our food banks, similar to the majority of our Soup Kitchens, opened their doors for the first time in 2020 as a direct response to the coronavirus pandemic.
In locations where we’ve not been able to open a Kitchen, we have set up the UCKG Food Bank, allowing people to pick up non-perishable food items and in many cases fresh fruit and vegetables for themselves and their families.
We currently work with several organisations to make our food banks possible, these include local supermarkets and bakeries, local councils, as well as FareShare, who bridge the gap between us and suppliers, redistributing surplus food to charities like ourselves.
The project has proven successful with 14 Food Banks opening throughout the UK in our Help Centres. On average our Food banks welcome 50-60 people per Saturday, per location, meaning well over 200 people per week are benefitting from this project. As we continue to expand we are sure that many more families are going to be able to take advantage of the initiative.
The UCKG Food Bank is open every Saturday, from 11am – 1pm. If you or someone you know could benefit from the help provided at the UCKG Food Bank, visit one of the locations or give us a call on our 24-hr helpline: 020 7686 6000.
