On Sunday 16th December 2018 the Patient Care Group from the UCKG HelpCentre in Luton were invited to Gold Care Home’s Queensway House in Hemel Hempstead.
The group of 20 volunteers were invited along with Rosie Sutton, Mayor of Hemel Hempstead to do some carolling, as well as spend the afternoon with the residents at Queensway. Their visit made “everyone so excited and looking forward to the Christmas party”, said Irene Van Von, the Activities Coordinator at the home.
An afternoon with approximately 200 people was spent joyfully with the Patient Care Group. Christmas festivities took place as the patients ate a Christmas meal and enjoyed the sounds of ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘Deck the Halls’. The party continued with presents and a gift pack presented to all the residents that included toiletries and an inspirational book from the Patient Care Group.
There was also dancing and a speech from the Mayor.
The Patient Care Group was invited to say a prayer for the residents, which ended the day on a high note.
The afternoon ended with much appreciation from residents, their families and Queensway employees.
Irene Van Von added “…They loved the Christmas party and the presents…” and “the residents thoroughly enjoyed it.” Irene later commented, “…all the residents are still talking about.”
The Patient Care Group were pleased to accept an invitation to return for future activities at Queensway House.
